Elections

"The largest democracy in the world goes to polls".
We ll probably seeing this on news channels all summer. But, I don't think India is a proper democracy. True, there are more parties than anywhere else. But do we have different "choices". Most parties don't have a proper ideology. They are all "secular" without even knowing what the word means. Their ideology changes from month to month, sometimes even twice a month. The only parties which come even close to having a proper idea are the left parties. But they are outdated, and truly suck because they are what they are, leftist.

In a true democracy, the people have a choice. They can choose the people whom they think should lead the country. But do we really have a choice? If I don't like party A and vote for party B , I find that A and B eventually end up having a post poll alliance and come into power. So my vote is turned against myself. Post poll alliances are a mockery of the people's mandate, they should be banned. But they will not be, because the very people who have the power to ban it are the ones who are involved in it.

Money and politics are like milk and water, highly miscible .By money, I mean the money which is spent on buying votes. The graph of money in politics vs effort undertaken to separate money from politics is like that of an exponential function. It can never reach zero. But we CAN greatly reduce the miscibility if a large % of us refuse to take bribes however lucrative they may be. Think of this, a 1000 Rs for your vote may seem like a huge bargain, but if everyone thinks like you the country may end up in the wrong hands and that could prove VERY VERY costly.

Even if you refuse to accept bribes, goondas could still beat you up and force you to vote for a particular. Don't be such an idiot, don't let them beat you up, give in, vote for the party. But on your way home call the voter helpline from a pco and report. I think there should be a mechanism in place which allows you to make your vote invalid.

And PLEASE vote. Because if you don't you are not only giving an opportunity for the wrong people to come into power but you are doing something that is against the very spirit of democracy.

Vote,vote wise.
